Horikawa was a master of toy robot design, beginning in the 1959 with wind up robots and continuing through the 1990’s. Horikawa robots have a unique style with evolving features over time while maintaining a familiar look and feel.
Designed to command attention, this is a late 1970’s edition of the Horikawa all tin robot in the original box. 12″ in height with an all-tin lithographed black body and blue metal robot feet. The robot looks great just standing still. But the moment you flip the switch on his back the action really begins!
The robot starts walking, then the doors on his chest swing open and his built in robo-guns start blasting the room with bright flashing lights and loud shooting sounds. Then he spins, rotating at the hips 3 times, shooting the whole time, before his doors close and he advances for more carnage. Not subtle! Lots of amazing light, sound and moving action. See the video below.
We purchase this item in 1980. No rust or corrosion. The back of the robot’s block head has a few scratches, but otherwise it’s in great shape and works well. The battery compartment is clean, and uses 2 D batteries (not included). This is a finely crafted item and a great example of a well-designed mechanical robot toy and makes a great gift.
The package is 6 1/2″ x 5″ x 12 3/4″ in size and is in good condition with a few dings and creases but looks nice.
Photos are of of actual item. Climate controlled storage and minimally handled. Sold as is. Only 1 available.
